Dear Students,

The Dean of Students Office and Student Alliance are currently seeking nominations for the Student Representative to the Board of Trustees from the School of Consciousness and Transformation (SCT). The Student Representative position will rotate among SCT, the School of Professional Psychology, and the School of Undergraduate Studies students. For Academic Year 2008-2009, Elijah Nella from the Integral Counseling Psychology program served as our Student Representative. We would like to express our sincerest appreciation for his service. This year we are only seeking nominations from students in the School of Consciousness and Transformation.

The CIIS Board of Trustees is a governance body with legal and fiscal responsibility for the Institute. Membership consists of fourteen external members with specific areas of competence and interest in the Institute's mission and goals, the president (ex officio), and elected representatives from faculty, students, staff, and alumni.

The Student Representative must attend all three meetings in 2010, which occur on Saturdays from 9:00am-3:00pm on February 20, May 15, and October 16. The Student Representative is required to serve on the Student Life Committee of the Board which occurs on Fridays prior to Saturday Board Meetings from 3:45-5:00pm and may also choose to serve on other Board committees. These board committees are as follows: Academic Affairs, Advancement, Audit, Building and Safety, Finance, Strategic Communication, Student Life and the Trusteeship committee. The Student Representative will officially take the seat in February 2010 through October 2010.

From the Student Alliance perspective, this position offers an excellent opportunity to serve and be accountable to the CIIS student community as well as pushing for greater student voice and leadership within the institute as a whole. Students who serve in this position are expected to report back to the student body, when and if, necessary either through the apparatus of either Unite! or Student Alliance. Additionally, this position looks good on a résumé.

Interested students may nominate themselves by sending an email by Saturday, October 31, 2009 to Patrick Tiongson at studentaffairs 'at' ciis.edu with their name, program, and a short paragraph explaining why they would make a great student representative to the Board. This information will then be placed on each ballot as well as on the Student Alliance website. Student Alliance will be hosting an informal question and answer session on Friday, November 13th from 10 to 11 am in room 218 in order to answer any questions that students may have in regards to this position. The date and time of this event will be posted on the Student Alliance website, around campus and it will also be emailed out to the general student list-serve. The candidates will be announced to the student body on Monday, November 16. The 2009-2010 Student Trustee Election will take place from Monday, November 16 through Friday, December 4. Voting for all students will be conducted online via SurveyMonkey.com. More information will be provided on myCIIS and the Student Alliance website as the election draws nearer.
