Student Alliance Mission

Student Alliance is a student-run organization that facilitates communication, sponsors events, and allocates funding to help students and student groups actualize the seven institute ideals. Listening to student voices, we build alliances, cultivate student leadership, and advocate for social change and transformation of existing power structures.

Upcoming Dates

Student Alliance has decided to open up conference funding for summer conference work. As Student Alliance generally does not fund summer conference funding, please note the following:

A) You are only allowed to turn in one application per grant cycle. For example, you can turn in one application for summer conferences.

B) If you have already received conference funding application during the spring and been granted funding, you are not allowed to retroactively apply for another conference funding for the summer for the previous semester work. For example, if you applied and were granted funding for the spring conference funding Proposal Action Team, you can only turn in conference work for the summer. You are not allowed to have two conference funding applications that are granted for the same semester.

C) The funding proposal is located at http://www.saciis.org/proposal.php. Please read through all the information on this section of the website before turning in your application. Please turn in appropriate receipts meeting or exceeding the amount that you are requesting.

D) I will be out of the country doing research in an area with limited internet access. As such, you will not receive confirmation of me having received your application. I do not normally email confirmation of having received applications.

E) Be aware that conference money will be distributed as follows: $125 for conference and/or workshop attendance nationally $250 for conference attendance internationally $250 for conference presentation nationally $500 for conference presentation internationally

The deadline to turn in your conference funding application will be August 1st 2010. You can drop off your application in the drop box outside of room 401 marked Student Alliance. You can also email me your application at studentalliance@ciis.edu. Only completed applications turned in on time will be accepted, no exceptions. You will be notified by no later than August 15th if your application has been accepted and next steps.

Free Yoga

Student Alliance and the Staff Association have teamed up again to offer Free Yoga!!! Check out the SA bulletin board outside the café for dates and times. Namaste!

Student Alliance Coordination

Lil Milagro Martinez-Cornejo , lilmilagromc 'at' gmail.com, manage the Student Alliance budget and the Social Justice and Community Research Grant, and communicates Student Alliance projects and events. Lil Milagro also communicates with the student body about campus events, SA meetings, works closely with campus groups and administers the Yoga and Tai Chi classes. She also oversees Hear and Now newsletter and the SA website.
